Paper Abstract:
|
The SEEP Project (Science Education European Platform) is launching an European Network of educational providers and stakeholders in education in order to promote co-operation and innovation in science education at secondary level in a European context. SEEP will be a Forum for joint reflection and co-operation in identifying and promoting innovation and best practice in science education at secondary level and a platform for training, co-operation and access to resources. The network started out with 15 partners coming from 9 European Countries (Italy, Malta, Turkey, Cyprus, Greece, Romania, Poland, Germany, Spain). To date we are halfway and the network can count on 530 individual members and 114 Organizations representing 14 European Countries and aims at being further enlarged. The SEEP Project is an important opportunity for the birth of a new generation of Science Teachers, a 2.0 Science Teacher, whose role is changing from knowledge disseminators to knowledge facilitators. To this aim SEEP wants to substantially alter classroom practices, by changing the instructional interaction between science teachers and students. In order to do this science teachers will be given opportunities, through the network, to train in an interactive context that links classroom practice and discussions with teachers with insights from research. The network will also support science teachers in becoming more aware users and producers of science education resources, in order to be able to teach in innovative ways. This new generation of science teachers will be able to make an impact on the number of MST graduates and will be instrumental to develop science education as one of the elements in preparing individuals and societies to participate in the information and knowledge age. |
